Joint Mobilizations/Manipulations |
A type of passive movement by the therapist to a joint in the spine, upper and lower extremities. It is usually performed on a joint that has become restricted or "tight" and its purpose is to help restore movement in the joint. |
Massage/Soft Tissue Mobilization |
A form of massage that is directed to alleviate aches/pains and/or injuries that are related to the soft tissues of the body. This is done through direct pressure to a muscle. There can also be techniques such as Swedish massage, acupressure, etc used to release muscle spasms/dysfunction. |
Strengthening/Stretching |
Exercises which are designed to elongate the muscle fibers or build them up to their normal levels. |
Ultrasound |
An electro therapy device that utilizes high or low frequency sound waves. These waves are transmitted onto the surrounding tissue; they penetrate the muscles to cause deep tissue/muscle warming. The warming effect increases circulation to the area and promotes healing. |
Cold/Heat Therapy |
Use of iced or hot packs directly on the muscles/joints to cause the desired effect (increasing circulation, reducing swelling etc). |
Balance/coordination treatment |
Exercises which are designed to facilitate and restore balance and coordination skill. |
Propreoception |
Training and improving the ability to sense the location, position, orientation and movement of the body and its parts in space. This specific kind of training helps preventing recurrent injury and restores normality. |
Patient Education/Home Exercise Program |
This is, as mentioned above, the most important method enabling you to maintain/gain results and restore function of your body. |
Body Mechanics and postural Training |
Teaching the patient the correct way of utilizing the muscles and joints, avoiding harmful actions-how to sit, lift and sleep correctly. |
Myo-Fascial Release |
A form of soft tissue work which focuses on the connective tissue called fascia. It uses a manual technique for releasing/stretching the fascia and releasing bonds between fascia, skin, muscles, and bones. The goal of this is to eliminate pain and restrictions, increase range of motion and decrease tension in the body. Fascia is located between the skin and the underlying structure of muscle and bone. It is a seamless web of connective tissue that covers and connects muscles, organs, and skeletal structures in the body. Muscle and fascia are inter-connected forming the "myo-fascial" system. Fascia may be manipulated, directly or indirectly, allowing the connective tissue fibers to reorganize themselves in a more flexible, functional fashion. Injuries, stress, inflammation, trauma, and poor posture may cause restrictions to fascia. The goal of MFR is to release restricted tissue and restore its normal function. |
Cranio-Sacral Therapy |
A gentle technique that addresses the restrictions and tensions of the Dura Mater, the connective tissue that envelops the brain and spinal cord. |
Muscle Energy Techniques |
A direct technique using voluntary muscle contraction to normalize joint motion through the pelvis, spine, arms, legs and rib cage. |
Gait Training |
We use this treatment when a patient has difficulty walking following and injury, surgery or neurological disorder. This helps with improving and/or restoring normal pattern. |
Electrical Stimulation/TENS |
Treatment used by applying an external stimulus to muscles for facilitation/stimulus that compete with the pain on the paths. |
Manual Traction |
Techniques which are applied to the spine to separate the vertebras gently and decompress pressure on the joints or discs. |
